Martin Luther King Jr. Day |
Tomorrow we celebrate and remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His commitment to unifying our nation and uplifting all Americans made this a better nation and inspired the world. I encourage everyone to take his words to heart: "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Border Security Update |
Democrats' shutdown tactics reached new lows this week. The House considered a bill that would have provided disaster relief funding for South Carolina, and surely would have been signed into law once the Democrats decided to end their political games and reopen the government. I even offered an amendment to this bill that would have streamlined the rebuilding process and helped people get back into their homes as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, Democrats made the disaster relief bill subject to opening the government without border security funding by adding a Continuing Resolution to the bill at the last minute. The added CR was a poison pill that ensured an otherwise legitimate, bipartisan bill would not be considered by the Senate or President Trump.
I spoke on the floor twice to tell my Democratic colleagues to end their political games and come to the table to provide disaster relief, secure our border, and reopen the government. Standing Up for the Sanctity of Life |
This week, thousands of people came to D.C. to show their support for the sanctity of life. It's been 46 years since Roe v. Wade and I believe the pro-life movement is stronger- and more important- than ever. I stand in solidarity with the Americans and South Carolinians who believe life begins at conception, who are willing to be a voice for the voiceless, and who stand up for the unborn.

Read my Op-Ed on Border Security |
This week, I wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Times where I explained how illegal immigration and open borders are negatively impacting American citizens. From depressed wages, to human trafficking, drugs, and violent crime, our failure to secure our border is a national disgrace. Read the full op-ed below!

Train to Work |
Horry Georgetown Tech is offering free Train to Work programs in nursing, construction, plumbing and other fields.
Under President Trump, our economy is creating opportunities across the country and in the Seventh District! Thanks to tax reform and regulatory reform, businesses are creating jobs and the labor market is stronger than it has been in years. Now, we're working to get people off the sidelines of the economy so that they can take the opportunities now available to them. These free training programs are stepping stones to good paying jobs and careers. I am proud to represent HGTC and the other technical schools in our district that are helping connect people with opportunity so they can live their own American dream.

Hometown Highlight |
Because I fly so much, airlines sometimes bumps me to first class. When that happens, I often try to find a constituent and swap seats.
The young man in the below photo is Kendrick Green. I met Kendrick in the airport as we were both flying to DC. Kendrick is from Myrtle Beach and is a hunter and fisherman. You can tell by his uniform that he serves our country in the US Army. Kendrick has been assigned to the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery!
Kendrick is doing our hometown and district proud!
